Important Alert, Snowmobilers your help is needed!
The Southwest Savanna Draft Regional Master Plan is now open for comments until April 18. The entire plan is available here; https://widnr.widen.net/s/cr2wkm9prt/fl_el_sws_draftregionalmasterplan
The properties covered under this plan are the Badger State Trail, Belmont Mound State Park, Browntown-Cadiz State Rec Area, Military Ridge State Trail, New Glarus Woods State Park, Southwest Wisconsin Grassland and Stream Conservation Area, Sugar River State Trail, Yellowstone Lake State Park, and Yellowstone Wildlife Area. All current snowmobile trails on these properties are included in the plan. We recommend you comment that snowmobile use continue to be allowed on these properties.
The one trail where snowmobiling is not included in on the New Glarus Spur North located south of the Sugar River Trail running along Highway 69 south to County Hwy H. This section of trail is considered part of the New Glarus Woods State Park.
Snowmobiling use has occurred on this trail since its inception in 1998. Snowmobile use in this area is legally in the highway right-of way and is not prohibited in any current property plans. Snowmobile use on roughly 3 blocks of this trail located in the Village of New Glarus allows snowmobilers and club grooming equipment easy and safe access to businesses and fuel. The DOT has never raised any concerns with snowmobile use in the highway right-of-way and we are not aware of any issues or conflicts with other users.
It is important everyone comments to recommend that snowmobiling be considered an allowable use in the New Glarus Spur North. Use the talking point above in your comments.
