We had quite a discussion at both the September and October Council Meetings about our Annual Easter Seals Blizzard Blast Benefit. Two concerns came up…the effect of the Corona Virus, and, quite frankly, a lack of volunteers willing to put the project on.
The Council has always done an annual benefit fundraiser that has been split to the 4 locations ever since I can remember. And, f I recall, the DCCSC has partnered with Easter Seals annually for the past 30-some years. We have done so, mainly for two reasons: They take a very small portion our donations for administration, and the positive effect they have locally in our area..
Yes, the project takes both effort and manpower, but please consider the following:
Really, the event has become our annual get together as clubs, landowners and friends. In doing so, we have become a viable financial resource for Easter Seals, especially Camp Wawbeek. That camp is a place that those having physical issues can spend for a time to do things we all take for granted. And, in doing so, it gives those loved ones a short break from the grueling responsibilities for those full-time care-givers..
Many forget that we have raised some $350,000.00 for their cause. Besides the sheer satisfaction of doing so, the Dane County Council of Snowmobile Clubs is recognized for our efforts among State Business Leaders, County' Government, and in the State Capitol. We have also been recognized numerous times by Easter Seals on a State Wide level for our participation and support.
While CV -19 will effect this year's event, the Council still feels we have an obligation to support them. We are asking for all clubs and all members to take up donations on a club and personal level.
At Waunakee's October Meeting, we voted to donate $500 from the club, and we will be taking up personal donations in addition to that amount. If we all can come up with similar donations, we would be close to what we normally raise for them.
As my old friend Virgil Schulenberg says: “We ride for those who Can't”.
Please think about it…
Thanks to all!
Pray for Snow!
