The Blue Mound State Park Snowmobile Trail Effort Is Now Moving Ahead!

Posted by

Fellow Snowmobilers:

As all should know by now, our efforts continue in regards to reinstalling a snowmobile trail in a Wisconsin State Park that is both reasonable, legal and fair…..

The second phase of the Blue Mound State Park (BMSP) Master Plan process has now been announced.

 The DNR is presenting 4 proposed alternatives for the snowmobile trail in the proposed plan. A basic explanation of those 4 alternatives are as follows;

Alternative 1…. Would route the trail approximately 40' off of Ryan and Mounds Park Roads, which are the current road routes that we are using.

Alternative 2… Would route the trail on a service road at the eastern edge of the park, in the very similar location that our original trail was located.

Alternative 3… Would locate the trail on a western route and would require the DNR to acquire additional lands to install this alternative route.

Alternative 4… Would leave the trail on the side of the road as it is currently run.

 OUR PREFERRED ROUTE IS ALTERNATIVE 2. This route is much safer than running on the side of the road. It would give us a route that has a similar experiences all of the other park visitors are allowed to witness. It would require very minimal brushing and preparation to complete. This alternative would cause very little interference with other users. This route was in a very similar location to the original trail that ran through the park for some 17 years.

 The Blue Mound State Master Plan Management Alternatives Public Meeting will be held Tuesday, November 19th from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at the Mt Horeb High School Auditorium located at 305 s. 8th St in Mt Horeb WI. There will be a brief presentation at 5:45. It will be critical to our cause to have a HUGE turnout at this meeting!
